X reacts to ” The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time’ remake

“The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time” is widely regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made.

The Nintendo 64 classic holds a 99 score on Metacritic making it the highest rated game on the site and has been credited with helping establish the blueprint for many modern video games.

Nearly 30 years later, after previous remakes and remasters, including a 3DS version in 2011, Nintendo is bringing the iconic title to modern hardware with a from the ground up remake for the Nintendo Switch 2.

First announced with a short teaser during a Nintendo Direct in June, the remake received its first extended look Sept. 8 during “The Legend of Zelda” 40th Anniversary Direct, where longtime series producer Eiji Aonuma showcased its updated graphics.

Including a look at the famous Hyrule Field

 

New gameplay features were also shown that weren’t present in the original , including free camera movement, the ability for Link to jump with a button press and even being able to hum into the microphone to play songs on the iconic Ocarina.

While most reactions to the game were positive, some were not fans of the remakes new art direction, saying it looked generic and ruined the art direction of the original, there was also comparison to a famous meme where people remade Nintendo games using Unreal Engine.

However one user on X dismissed this criticism by simply showing what the original game looked like.

Others were also confused about a comment Aonuma made about the inclusion of loading screens in the remake despite the upgraded hardware, saying it was to “preserve  the essence of the original game”.

Most fans however seemed to have no problem with the games new look.

A special edition Switch 2 system, Pro Controller and carrying case were also unveiled to coincide with the game’s release.

The limited edition items quickly sold out after going on sale, with many of them later appearing on resale sites at prices significantly higher than their original cost.
