Saddleback donates jerseys to nine soccer teams in Africa
The Saddleback College athletic department made a generous donation to Sports Gift, a non-profit organization in Dana Point California.
Sports Gift collects and distributes second-hand sports equipment to less fortunate children around the world.
The donation was given to nine girls’ teams.
“Participation in youth team sports helps build important life skills and I am proud that with the help of Sports Gift, Saddleback ‘s donation will truly benefit young athletes in West Africa. This donation is also a wonderful way of teaching our students about the importance of community service at the local and global events,” said Dr. Tod A. Burnett, President of Saddleback College.
The jerseys were delivered to Togo which is located in West Africa where, support or funding is not available for girls’ athletics.
The donation made by Saddleback will give these girls the first opportunity to play organized game play.
“It is gratifying to know that Saddleback College’s donation will help young girls play organized soccer for the first time, and that we are helping others beyond the boundaries of south Orange County. It’s been a pleasure working with Sports Gift” said Tony Lipold, Dean of the Division of Physical Education/Kiniesiology and Athletics.
