Men’s Soccer take hard loss at home

The Lasers’ men’s soccer team took a 2-1 loss to Moorpark Community College Friday afternoon at Irvine Valley College.In the first half, IVC’s defense had a tough five-minute stretch, which cost them the match.

This defeat brings the Lasers’ record to 3-3-2 for the season.

Although the Lasers controlled most of the action early in the game, Moorpark made goals in the 20th and 23rd minutes.

Alberto Mendoza was the first to score when kicked in a rebound off another Moorpark shot. Three minutes and a few seconds later, Rei Stern received an assist from Mendoza and Stern made a shot past IVC goalie Daniel Hernandez.

In the first half IVC freshman forward Irvin Parra from Trabuco Hills High School and IVC sophomore forward Bruno Sad from Bahiense Rio De Janeiro in Brazil, both had chances to score for Irvine Valley. Sad made a header that just missed over the top. Freshman midfielder Brice Adams from Mission Viejo High School, also made a header, but it went wide and missed the net.

About midway through the second half the Lasers finally scored. In the 66th minute of the game, IVC freshman forward Allen Villa from Century High School, the newest addition to the team, made a shot off a cross into the box from freshman midfielder Homero Martinez from Santiago High School and made it past Moorpark goalie Barry Uko.

Virtually the Lasers’ only other chance to score the rest of the game came when freshman forward Anthony Muniz from Woodbridge High School, made left-footed shot in the closing minutes, but it went wide.

Moorpark’s record now stands at 3-1-1.

Both teams finished with eight shots.

Hernandez made a total of four saves for the Lasers.

IVC has a s ten day break before starting the Orange Empire Conference. They will play Cypress in an away game Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
