Saddleback head football coach Mark McElroy has been granted a sabbatical for this spring semester to visit at least a dozen Division I football programs. Defensive cordinator Steve Crapo will be taking over all duties, including recruiting, during McElroy’s absence until McElroy’s return this summer.
McElroy started at wide receiver for the Gauchos in 1979 an took over Saddleback’s program as head coach in 1999. Under McElroy, the Gauchos have posted a 60-19 record and have made seven consecutive bowl appearances. McElroy has also coached at his alma mater San Clemente High School and was an assistant under Norm Chow at Brigham Young University.
