Lasers strike the Gauchos
Irvine Valley College rocked the Saddleback College women’s volleyball team winning three out of four sets, 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-8, in a Orange Empire Match at IVC last Wed.
“We give Saddleback a ton of credit. We have had 166 attempts in four games against Saddleback, That is at least 30 more attempts than any other match this year. They play very well and their defense was incredible.” said IVC volleyball coach Tom Pestolesi.
IVC had an advantage over Saddleback, The Lasers had around twelve players whereas the Gauchos only had 8. This was an advantage because when an IVC player got tired the coach could switch her out. The Gauchos didn’t have many players to choose from.
“They did very well for having such limited players, they were outstanding and very consistent.” said Shari Knox, mother of Bri Knox, defense player for the Gauchos.
“I am really proud of how they played tonight, It was an intense game. We lost a player do injury, so our other players had to step it up, but they handled it well.” said Gaucho coach Carmen Stratton.
On the other-hand, IVC fans did not think their team played as well as they could have.
“I think they could have played better but I’m happy they won.” said Maddie Sapigao, 20, journalism.
“I don’t think we played that well in the beginning, but we came back in the end and that is what counted.” said IVC players Katelyn Shepard.
