Irvine Valley Sinks Orange Coast Pirates in battle game
Irvine Valley College defeated Orange Coast College Friday night for the Orange Empire Conference title. The Lasers won 3-2 (21-24, 26-24, 25-23, 25-27, 15-6).
IVC never gave up as they kept fighting to take the win. In two of the five games the Lasers came from behind to win the games. In the third game Freshman Casey Williams put the Lasers ahead 22-20 with back-to-back blocks.
The Lasers took control in the fifth with a 6-0 score and later won 15-6 to win the match.
Freshman Carly Loucks had a solo block which became one of her high seven blocks.
Nichole May finished with a season-high of 21 kills and 10 digs. Five kills and one block came in the fifth game only Sophomore Mari Guadagnini had a successful 15 kills and eight digs.
Williams had herself 14 kills. Freshman Alyssa Swatek had 10 digs. Freshman Allie Hammer had a season-high of 57 assists and eight digs.
The Lasers will travel to Fullerton college today and play at 6 p.m. This Friday IVC will play a home game against Santa Ana College at Concordia. The game was moved to Concordia because of a men’s basketball tournament taking place.
IVC will play Saddleback College for the last game of the season at Saddleback on Wed. Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.
Southern California playoffs began Tuesday Nov. 25 with times to be announced.
