Family night welcomes new students

Due to the water damage to the Saddleback College gymnasium floor that is still under construction, Family Night took place in the Student Services Center Nov. 28.

The event was held on both the first and second floors of the SSC, welcoming future incoming freshman from all over Mission Viejo.

Family Night began at 6 p.m. with opening speeches from Saddleback College President Richard McCullough, Associated Student Government vice-president Justin Brahms, and alumni speaker Naghmeh Rabi.

“It is very encouraging to see how involved students are in college,” said El Toro High School student Sarah Wilson, 17. “I didn’t think students would be as involved with ASB and extra curricular activities as in high school.”

The SSC made it easier for people attending the event to become more familiar with what offices they should visit for registration at Saddleback.

Appetizers and refreshments were offered for everyone, and flyers were passed out which were filled with information for high school students interested in attending Saddleback.

“There were about400 people [at the event],” said Leslie Humphrey, Outreach director and chair of the event. “They are all getting hands-on at the event due to its location this year.”Admissions and Records, financial aid, the Health and Counseling Centers were at the event, along with the math, science and engineering division, the study abroad program, and Environmental Studies.

An additional flyer was passed out to anyone who had further questions about where to receive more information on any of the services or programs featured at Family Night.
