Brief on Kony
Information on the Kony talk (Don Congjuico)
There will be information regarding “Kony” and the organization that brings awareness to this called the “InvisibleChildren“. The event will take place on September 19, 2012 at 2:30 and 3:30 pm in the SSC 112.
Joseph Kony, or more widely knows as “Kony“, is the target of a group that made their actions known throughout the globe. Kony’s LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) has been terrorizing local communities in Uganda and kidnapping the children and rapes, maims and uses the male boys he kidnapped as warriors in his army. A campaign to make the global community aware of these atrocities was accomplished by an organization called Invisible Children.
The Invisible Children’s mission states, “Invisible Children exists to bring a permanent end to the LRA atrocities”. The “atrocites” that were cited in the mission statement refers to the ICC’s (International Criminal Court) indictment of Joseph Kony on 12 counts of crimes against humanity and 21 counts of war crimes with regard to the situation in Uganda.
Invisible Children’s efforts to make the global community aware of Kony’s actions was made possible by the viral video named “Kony 2012″. The awareness campaign by Invisible Children proved successful when the United States of America sent 100 armed advisors into the country of Uganda to help the local Ugandan army find Kony.
Recently the co founder of Invisible Children, Jason Russell, was detained by the San Diego Police Department. According to the SDPD, he was allegedly found masturbating in public, vandalizing cars and was possibly under the influence. He was sent to a medical facility due to the things he said when the SDPD evaluated him.
