Undefeated to start season on right foot
After the 2012-13 overall season record of 27-5, the Saddleback College Gauchos men’s basketball team has started the 2013-14 season with a current win streak of 7.
Saddleback is ranked No. 1 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 7-0 record, yet not far behind in conference, Irvine Valley is also undefeated, 6-0.
The Gauchos have played in two tournaments this season, both away at Ventura and Fullerton College and have come out victorious. Saddleback also played a non-conference game against LA Pierce at home for the win in between the tourneys.
In their match up against LA Pierce College they managed to put score 94 points over Pierce’s 68 for the final score. Pierce held off Saddleback from a huge lead at half time when Saddleback only had the lead by six points, 43-37. Gauchos had four players with over 15 points on the night as well as rebounding 41 shots.
As far as the tournaments go, the Gauchos swept the competition in both events.
In the Fullerton College Tournament, Saddleback College first faced Barstow in a one-sided game resulting in a 91-41 victory, Barstow only held the lead during the first score of the game. At the next match up the Gauchos defeated Chaffey 67-51, then took down San Diego Mesa 69-47 Fullerton’s Hornets Nest.
Gauchos took the Palomar Thanksgiving Tournament in another 3 game sweep. The first game against LA Trade Tech was a victory 89-63, following two more marginally large scoring games against LA Harbor and Southwestern, 69-52, 69-47.
Saddleback will be hosting non-conference El Camino-Compton Center College at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, as well as playing at non-conference San Diego Miramar College the same time Friday, Dec. 6.
