Ross pitches Saddleback to another victory
After winning both games during a doubleheader on Valentine’s Day, Saddleback headed to San Diego on Feb. 17 to take another victory.
Sophomore Robby Ross picked up his third win of the season against the San Diego Olympians. Ross struck out three batters and walked only once before being relieved in the middle of the sixth inning. Ross left the game with a 9-2 lead against San Diego.
The Gauchos knocked out 15 hits and defeated San Diego 10-3. Freshman Brett Vertigan went 4-5 for the afternoon, hitting two doubles. Freshman Sean Parvin went 3-4, as well as collecting a team high of three RBIs.
Sophomore Josh Leite was 3-4 while driving in two RBIs. Leite also ended the day with a double. Freshman Darren Combs collected a double and drove in two runs.
Saddleback begins season conference play tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Irvine Valley College with an overall record of 10-7. The Gauchos will then head to Orange Coast College on Saturday at noon.
