Lasers win big again, blast Golden West 4-0
Irvine Valley College women’s soccer continued its hot streak with a 4-0 win over Golden West College on Tuesday. This was the second consecutive shutout for the Lasers and their second straight game with at least three goals.
“I think we had a pretty good show today,” said Joe Supe, the Lasers head coach, “I’m very pleased with the way we performed today.”
The first goal was not scored until the 27th minute of the game, when Sophomore Forward Tiana Salazar broke the scoreless tie. Four minutes later, Sophomore Midfielder Kristen Ostler scored the Lasers second goal making the score 2-0. That score would remain intact until halftime.
The Lasers came out strong after halftime when Freshman Midfielder Marissa Perez scored a goal three minutes into the second half. In the 80th minute, Salazar would score her second goal of the game after a botched kick by Golden West’s goaltender bringing the score to 4-0.
“I needed it, and I’m very proud of my team for helping me out,” Salazar said when asked how she felt about her performance.
The Lasers will play Santa Ana College on Friday and will attempt to win a third game in a row.
“I know that they have a new coach and they are a good program,” Coach Supe said about his next opponent. “They always put up a good fight.”
