Lady Gauchos Tennis conquers Cuyamaca
Coming off of a dominant 8-1 victory at Palomar last week, the Lady Gauchos continued their winning streak at home with an 8-0 victory against the Cuyamaca Coyotes this Tuesday.
Coach Jay Amos said he was satisfied with the team’s results so far, but said the wins came with hardwork and dedication. “There’s no secret. You prepare during the week… The two things we can control are our effort and our attitude, and we’ve conducted ourselves well,” Amos said.
Sophomore No. 1 Kiana Hein, who won in straight sets in both Singles and Doubles, echoed Coach Amos’s sentiment. “Just being positive, whether you’re up or down… that helps to play better. I felt pretty good.”
Cuyamaca had lost a few of their starters to injury, but that did not change the team’s mindset coming into the match. “Like I say, good effort and good attitude, whatever happens after that… you play every point as well as you can,” Amos said.
And despite the Lady Gauchos dominant streak this year, Coach Amos has always stressed a good attitude and hardwork. “I never emphasized winning, but they win a lot. Even when [we] won state, it was all about the effort and the attitude,” Amos said.
The Lady Gauchos hope to continue their win streak at San Diego Mesa this Thursday, Feb. 13.
