Saddleback College hosted the Orange Empire Conference swim championships in their campus pool from on Thursday-Saturday, April 16-18.

In the three days of competition,  Golden West College’s men captured the conference championship while in women’s, Orange Coast College’s team were the victors.

OEC women’s swim teams have garnered 22 of the past 31 championships.

Saddleback freshman Mikayla Kosmala swam in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:41.17, finishing in fifth place.

Koshmala endured a loss to Golden West College sophomore Tori Cree, who finished first with a final time of 2:29.76. Strong swimming was also shown by Orange Coast’s Nacinda Paap who got second with a time of 2:35.73.

In the men’s 200-yard breaststroke, Saddleback freshman Daniel Peralta had a time of 2:29.88, earning himself 11 place in the race.

The campus pool had a great turnout with each team having a tent full of swimmers who could be heard from other spots on campus, screaming words of encouragement to perk up their competitors. There was a team spirit presence among both the men and women in the competition that brought this part of campus to life for the weekend.

Full weekend results are available on the OEC website.
