The Gauchos softball team had two games this week on their home field. On Monday, Feb. 2, the Gauchos hosted Grossmont. The Griffins prevailed by a 4-2 score.

They were led by pitcher Char Zetsch who allowed only one hit, striking out eight Gauchos, while walking four.

The Gauchos got on the board in the third inning in a wacky play. Kelly Bosshart was hit by a pitch and the next batter Shannon Wilkison doubled to centerfield. On the relay to home plate, Wilkison broke for third base. After Bosshart scored safely, the Griffins tried to get Wilkison out, but the throw wound up in left field and she scored.

Lauren Molina was up at the plate two batters later as the potential tying run but she grounded lightly to short.

That ended up being the Gauchos only threat of the game and lost they the game.

On Wednesday, the Gauchos played Cerritos College in a thrilling game. The Falcons were first score in the third inning when they scored four runs, much in part to the three-run homerun by Jen Salas.

Molina found her composure and struck out Ashley Ventura to end the inning. Not to be out done, the Gauchos flexed their muscles in the bottom half of the third inning.

With the bases loaded, Sarah Bosshart singled home Kelli Larson.  Starr White, Gauchos’ third basemen then doubled with two outs in the inning, clearing the bases and tying the score at four.

The Gauchos took the lead in the fifth inning on a ground out by Molina which scored the other Bosshart twin, Kelly. On the mound Molina struck out eight Falcons and walked two.

The Gauchos will host Santa Ana on Wednesday at 3 p.m. On Friday, the Gauchos will visit Palomar, the game will start at 2 p.m.
