Gaucho soccer notches first victory of the season
The Saddleback College women’s soccer team broke out of its regular season funk and beat San Diego City 1-0 last Wednesday.
The Gauchos and San Diego City were scoreless in the first half.
Saddleback sophomore Marissa Pickett scored to make the game 1-0. Jackie Csira got the assist on the play.
The Saddleback goalies only needed to make three saves the entire game, whereas San Diego City had 11 saves.
The Gauchos record stands at 1-4-1 and the Knights stand at 2-2 on the year.
Saddleback started Orange Empire Conference play yesterday against Santiago Canyon College. The Gauchos fell 5-0.
Saddleback will play at Cypress on Friday at 3 p.m. The Chargers are 3-0 on the season.
Saddleback will play at Santa Ana next Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Dons are 4-0 on the season. Santa Ana is led by freshman Amanda Chavez, from Valencia High School, who has three goals on the season. Chavez scored all three of her goals in a 9-0 thrashing in the season opener at Allan Hancock Community College.
