Athletes of the Week – 4.20.09
Michelle Neville
Last Saturday, freshman Michelle Neville secured a big team point in the Gauchos SoCal Regional Quarterfinal match against Grossmont College.
At No. 5 singles, Neville swept her two sets, 6-2 and 6-2, to help Saddleback hold serve at home to defeat the Griffins and advance.
She also came up big in the Gauchos match against Orange Coast College to finish the season.
Neville again swept her two sets, 6-1 and 6-2, at No. 5 singles to help clinch the Orange Empire League Championship for Saddleback.
Neville was a four-year player at Trabuco Hills High School.
Joe Richardson
Last Thursday, the Gauchos played at Riverside. Sophomore starting pitcher Richardson pitched seven innings, striking out two Tigers, and allowing four hits.
With the victory, the former Mission Viejo Diablo, has pushed his record to 6-3 on the season. He allowed one walk in his start. The Gauchos won the game 14-4 and then beat Cypress 11-10 in 10 innings.
The Gauchos are now 23-15 on the season and have a record of 11-7 in Orange Empire Conference play.
