Matt Reyes
IVC Lasers, Pitcher

In the first game of the Bakersfield Tournament against Los Angeles Pierce College on Thursday, Matt Reyes threw a gem on the mound as the starter for the Lasers.

Reyes thew 10 strikeouts in a 6-3 Lasers victory. At one point Reyes hurled four stikeouts in a row and had a stretch of striking out five of six batters he faced. Reyes only gave up one run, a solo home run in the first inning. Reyes only allowed four hits and two walks to the opposition.

“He had a live fastball, his change was filthy and his slider was super sharp,” head coach Kent Madole said. “It was pretty fun to watch.”

Lauren Molina
Gauchos Softball, Pitcher

The sophomore pitcher from Foothill High School was nearly unhittable in last Wednesday’s win over San Diego Mesa. She allowed one hit and gave up one run, which was unearned. She struck out eight Olympians in the match-up while walking three.

If her pitching was not enough, she hit a two-run homerun to seal the win for the Gauchos, 8-2 victory.

Molina finished the day going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. The Gauchos will play in the Gold and Green Tournament this weekend; games go all day.
