01/28/09 – Athletes of the Week
Ashley Dunn,
Sophomore Forward, IVC Women’s Basketball
Last week, Dunn was the leader that the Lasers needed her to be. In last Wednesday’s victory over Santa Ana, she finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and was a perfect eight-for-eight from the charity stripe.
Last Friday in a loss against Cypress College, she finished with 14 points, again going perfect from the free-throw line. She also led the Lasers in rebounds with 13. She even played 39 of the 40 minutes in the game.
The Lasers play at Fullerton on Friday night; tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
Franklin Session,
Sophomore Guard, Saddleback Men’s Basketball
True leaders represent themselves on and off the court. Not only did Session score 30 points in last Wednesday’s victory over Cypress, he fell over an opposing player while laying in agony and pain for several minutes.
After a brief stint on the bench, he was ready to come back into the game. Showing he was not seriously injured, he made two three-pointers in a row. He was nine for 21 from the field as well as going eight of nine from the free-throw line.
The win for the Gauchos extends their streak to 16 consecutive wins, which is good for the No. 3 ranking in the state, and first in the Orange Empire Conference.
The Gauchos play No. 16-ranked Riverside tonight at 5:30 p.m.
