Thousands honor Charlie Kirk at gatherings in Orange County

Charlie Kirk gatherings and vigils hosted across O.C garnering tens of thousands of supporters.

Residents of Southern California are expressing shock and sorrow following the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot during a speaking event in Utah on Sept. 10.

Kirk, 30, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was delivering the opening talk of his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University when a gunman fired from a rooftop, striking him in the neck. Roughly 3,000 attendees witnessed the attack. Kirk was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Authorities later arrested 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson in connection with the shooting.

Orange County leaders quickly condemned the violence. San Clemente Mayor Steve Knoblock released a statement calling the killing “an attack on free discourse,” adding, “We may have different ideas and opinions, but we will continue to listen and learn from each other as we protect our liberties” during a vigil for Kirk, hosted at the Outlet Mall, San Clemente by Calvary South OC.

An attendee of the San Clemente Vigil, Alicia Roberts, believed it was “an amazing vigil for Charlie and for God’s Glory… was in awe of the outpouring.”

In Newport Beach, residents gathered for impromptu vigils. Longtime local Jay Leno described the shooting as “the death of free speech,” warning that political disagreements “must never escalate into violence.”

Candlelight gatherings were also held in neighboring cities, including Huntington Beach, where supporters and critics alike joined in remembrance of the political commentator.

As investigations continue in Utah, Orange County officials are urging calm and dialogue. “Violence in all forms should be condemned,” Knoblock said. “Our community stands united in defending peaceful debate.”

The official public Charlie Kirk Memorial Service will be held at the State Farm Glendale Stadium in Arizona, where the Kirk family currently resides, this Sunday on the 21st. The State Farm stadium has a seating capacity of more than 63,000. Seating will be first come, first served based on stadium capacity. Overflow seating will be available at the Desert Diamond Arena” according to the website fightforcharlie.com. Trump, Vance, and other prominent political figures are scheduled to speak.
