The Purple People win Dance Against Cancer
A total of $24,172 was raised at the Dance Against Cancer event at Saddleback College with the team known as The Purple People emerging as the victor. The event was held at the Student Services Committee Quad on May 2. A total of two teams competed; the Purple People faced off against In Memory of Aranza.
“We’re just trying to have some fun and raise some money,” said The Purple People’s team captain, D.J. Tate.
Many members of Saddleback ASG were helping organize the event. Among them was ASG President Bahman Sabahi.
“This is an empowering experience,” Sabahi said. “I’m so proud of the Saddleback College Community for coming together for such a good cause.”
The contestants danced from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., only taking breaks to use the restroom and to eat.
“We’re just trying to raise awareness and have fun at the same time,” Tate said. “It would be great if more students participated.”
Margarette Strong, member of In Memory of Aranza, said she was there to dance for cancer and that was all that mattered to her.
“We’ll just keep dancing cancer away,” Strong said.
