Saddleback Foundation will honor contributors at annual fundraiser
Saddleback College Foundation will host its 12th annual themed gala, “A Glamorous Night of Stars,” on March 31 at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium.
The gala will raise funds for student scholarships and campus programs, as well as pay tribute to the contributions of five community businesses and organizations who have made significant donations to the college, which include the Bernard Osher Foundation, Dorothy Marie Lowry, Kia Motors, Linda Richardson Rice, and the college’s Associated Student Government.
No-host cocktails and a silent auction featuring paintings and printed graphic designs by Saddleback students as well as items donated by sponsors will begin at 6 p.m..
Dinner, with appetizers and desserts made by culinary arts students, will be accompanied by music instructor Joey Sellers’ jazz band starting at 7 p.m. Other entertainment includes dancing and casino gaming.
Saddleback College’s 2012 Alumnus of the Year, Nico Melendez, will also be honored at the event. After attending Saddleback, Melendez earned his bachelor’s degree from Chaminade University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Troy University. He is currently a professional communicator for the Transportation Security Administration, as well as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was named 66th Assembly District Veteran of the Year in 2011.
