Matriculation for the modern student

Johnny Wilson

No longer will Saddleback College students have to suffer the lengthy process of matriculation and written placement exams.

As one of the three steps in the matriculation process, students are required to take an assessment test. The outcome of this test then determines the level of math, reading, and English courses available for the student to take.

In the past, students were required to contact the matriculation office weeks in advance in order to schedule an in-class testing date.

However, beginning May 1, Saddleback students may simply walk in Monday through Thursday (between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.) and take a digital placement exam with no prior appointment.

The new testing system will allow the college to serve more students, including those without a prior appointment. Although the process is becoming more streamlined, students should still allow themselves around 2.5 hours to complete the placement exam.
