Explosive device found on Saddleback College campus during winter break
Earlier this morning pieces of a mysterious device were found in front of the Health Sciences and Human Services building.
“This morning, a suspicious device that had been detonated sometime during the holiday break was found approximately 20 feet in front of the Health Sciences Building. As a precautionary measure, Campus Police notified the Orange County Bomb Squad, which has taken lead in the investigation and has identified the device as a military flare, which has caused no damage to the campus,” wrote Jennie McCue, director of marketing and communications in a press release to notify campus employees of the device.
Janet Jacob, senior administrative assistant for the Health Science and Human Services division, said that campus police came into the building after the device had been found in the morning to check on the staff.
“At this time we don’t know what it was or what they found,” Jacob said.
Jacob also said the device had left burn marks on the pavement, but no burn marks or other traces of the device were found near the entrance of the HS Building.
A representative from Saddleback College Campus Police could not be reached to confirm that the device found on campus was a military flare.
