College holds Transfer Day
In the midst of smoky skies and ash-filled air, universities from northern and central California, as well as out of state schools who were lucky enough to make it through traffic, encouraged students to ask any possible questions they had to plan ahead for transfer to their desired universities.
Transfer Day took place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct 26 by the library,”helping students get from here to there” as the Saddleback College Transfer Center says.
“There were 60 universities expected to show up but because of the fire, universities from San Diego were unable to come,” said Miki Mikolajczak, transfer center coordinator counselor. “We do have six other small college airs throughout the year during spring and summer semesters, so students can get their questions answered in case they missed this big transfer day fair.”
All sources of different majors were presented, such as the art and design institutes.
“The Interior Designers Institute offers internships for students,” said Lesley Delauantey. “Once their required units are completed, they can easily transfer all of their [general education classes]”.
The booth for the Institute was filled with information, including a booklet covering some of their student’s profiles and actual designs and graphics to give interested students a better visual.
Another booth surrounded by students was that of the California State University, Fullerton.
Students interested in teaching careers could have questions answered with information such as earning money while enrolling in five units by working as a teaching assistant with a mentor teacher like Jeremy Morales.
“We are here for just short information that can be provided,” Morales said. “But there are 30 minute appointments students can make with us at the transfer center.”
Students walked around with their hands full of fliers from universities such as University of California, Berkeley, USC, Chapman University, California Baptist University, Columbia University, Utah Valley State College, University of Hawaii, UCI, UCLA, California State University at Dominguez Hills, Sacramento State University, California State University, San Marcos and many more.
“The transfer day is pretty useful,” said Gil Santiago, 19, mathematics. “I like it. I plan to transfer to Fullerton or UCI in fall ’08.”
“There’s plenty of information about the TTP program,” said Terence Nelson. “It offers internships for students but it pays.”
