Study aboard on the northern coast of Spain

The study abroad program at Saddleback College is welcoming students to a venture in Santander, Spain, this summer to learn Spanish and experience the local culture first hand.
The program will run from June 29 to July 30 and will be headed by Saddleback instructor Carmenmara Hernandez-Bravo, who has also been the program director for 28 years.
Students will be studying at the Colegio Miguel de Unamuno where they are required to take a minimum of 8.25 units of Spanish courses. Participants will stay in a home, in a double-occupancy setting, and will receive three meals a day.
There will be plenty of leisure time to explore the sights of Santander such the beaches, museums, and prehistoric caves.
Santander, the capital of the Cantabria Province, is long in history and tradition. Founded by the Romans, it became a merchant harbor during the 18th and 19th centuries, according to the Spanish tourism website FedericoVasco.com.
Santandor’s beaches offer calm waters, protected by the bay. One can stroll through the Pereda Gardens where the Palacete del Embarcadero offers an excellent view of the fishing dock and harbor.
The city’s architecture is a mixture of old and contemporary. It is known for its museums of fine arts, archeology and history, and maritime.
The local cuisine features fresh seafood and meat, produce and desserts such as pastel de queso (cheese pie), according to the tourism website.
The cost of the trip will range from $5,360 to $5,750 depending on the number of students who register.
