Perspire Sauna Studio, which utilizes chromotherapy and infrared technology to detox and provide medicinal benefits, officially opened its doors to the public on Jan. 25 in Mission Viejo.

As opposed to traditional saunas, Perspire uses 360 degree technology that causes a physical reaction inside of the body. The full spectrum of near infrared and far infrared light relieves pain and flushes out built up toxins and hormones.

“The infrared technology heats you up from the inside out,” said Robin Dunivin, co-owner of the Mission Viejo location. “The light penetrates your soft tissue, causing a vibration in your cells that loosens up the toxins and then gets flushed out by your kidneys and liver.”

Separate from the benefits of the infrared light, the chromotherapy aspect of the sauna studio uses the visible spectrum of color to treat diseases and stimulate the mind. The six varying colors each offer specific benefits, which include relaxation and skin rejuvenation. Depending on their needs, a customer can choose which color they wish to have during their session.

Most clients are fitness oriented, and add a weekly sauna treatment into their normal wellness routine. However, many come looking to improve serious health conditions.

“My main purpose was to use the Perspire sauna as a heavy metal detox,” said James Fishback, a previous member of the Laguna Hills location. “I first went in February 2017 and went everyday for three months. The Uranium in my body has since gone down from 10 times the normal health limit to under two times the limit, and my numbers for Lead, Cadmium, Strontium and Gadolinium have also improved markedly.”

Customers can seek treatment on a daily or weekly basis, depending on the issue that they are trying to address.

The sauna studio is made up of 10 different saunas, which are sectioned off into individual, private rooms. Each one contains a TV, a built in dial to control the temperature and light color, freshly washed towels and a guide showing the different colors and benefits that each one offers.

Each session lasts for 40 minutes, during which a customer can set their preferred heat and color of light. Customers can watch Netflix or listen to Pandora on the TV to pass the time, or they can enjoy the solitude of silence.

“I have gone for a few sessions but I always set it at maximum heat,” said Pablo Rosales, a new customer at the Mission Viejo location. “It always makes me sweat and helps me cut weight.”

The company, which was launched eight years ago, was originally started as a way for a group of friends to detox after an eventful weekend.

“Ken, who is the original owner, had a buddy who had an infrared sauna at his house,” said Dunivin. “Him and his buddies would always go out on the weekends and then go use their friend’s sauna. He decided to start charging them and finally ended up turning it into a business idea and opened one up in Corona Del Mar, which was first called Sweet Sweat.”

What was once used as a quick, free solution to restore the body has now evolved into a growing business. Perspire is now located throughout Southern California, with franchises in Huntington Beach, Laguna Niguel, Newport Bluffs and Costa Mesa. It has also spread to Georgia and Texas, and the company is looking to establish itself in other states in the future.
