Saddleback to select speaker for graduation
Saddleback College has closed the application submission process to be a commencement speaker at graduation May 23.
“We have received four completed applications by the deadline, Friday, April 10, and they all represent a great level of diversity present at Saddleback,” said Audra DiPadova, director of student life.
DiPadova could not release the names of the four applicants, but said there would be a tryout that each student will go through to determine the speaker. In previous years, there was a selection committee to determine the student speaker. However, this year there will be no committee.
“The applicants are all such strong candidates that it will be difficult to decide upon one specific student to speak, so we may do something completely different and new this year,” DiPadova said.
Saddleback’s commencement will be held in the gymnasium. According to the graduation webpage, the guest speaker is Jonathan Mooney, a dyslexic writer that founded an outreach program called Project Eye-To-Eye.
