Public reading of award winning Saddleback publication WALL to take place Thursday
A public reading of the award winning Saddleback College publication WALL, titled “Writings on the WALL,” will be held Thursday Oct. 24 in the Health Sciences and Human Services building Room 145 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The reading will showcase poems, short stories and personal essays from the publication. Some of the pieces will be read by their authors or performed as an oral interpretation by students studying forensic speech.
Art and photography from the publication will also be presented at the reading. The artists and photographers will explain the creative process that went into their work.
“Hopefully the audience will kind of get to peek behind the scenes a little bit about what was going on when the photographer snapped this picture or when the writer wrote this story,” Gina Shaffer, faculty adviser to WALL said. “I think it’s just a chance to peek behind the curtain at the creative process.”
WALL is a student run literary journal created at Saddleback. Students create all the works in the publication. All students are free to submit work to WALL for the chance to be published.
The deadline for submissions to the 2014 edition is Feb. 10. Online copies of WALL and 2014 submission guidelines can be found at http://www.saddleback.edu/la/wall.
