5 things every student should know this semester
Being a new student, or even a returning student to Saddleback College can be confusing if you don’t know what’s going on with campus facilities and student services. Here’s a quick update on the top 10 things Saddleback students should be know at the start of this semester:
Wireless network update
Due to the rapid increase of people utilizing the wireless network available on campus, Technology Services had to update appliances and slightly alter how you log in to access the student Wi-Fi services. The old method will be discontinued, but instructions have been made available to help students utilize the new system and log on.
Major workshops offer free lunch
Every student must complete a My Academic Plan, or MAP, declaring a major. To help students choose a major that is right for them and offer students tips from counselors, workshops are held every Thursday in Village 8-05 during the 2015 spring semester. Schedule a one-hour workshop 12-1 p.m. on Thursdays by calling 949-582-4572, and receive a free lunch for your participation.
Blackboard
Video tutorials and tips have been made available on YouTube for students who are not familiar with Blackboard, through which many instructors communicate with their classes. This is especially helpful for students who have an online class, as all class activities will be carried out through the site.
TED Talk Tuesdays
Every Tuesday at noon from February through April, TED Talks are held in the Student Services Building, Room 211. Interesting researchers and presenters share their work and once a month lunch is served. Check out the schedule here.

If you are fulfilling credits for a degree or Certificate of Achievement, the deadline to apply for graduation is March 1. All students looking to graduate must apply. You can now do so online at MySite under “MyInformation” and “Degrees,Certs,Transfers.”
