Army Ground Forces Brass Brigade plays concert

The Brass Brigade

Alexander Pijuan-Galindo

The Saddleback College Jazz Studies department is sponsoring a new concert, Tuesday January 19 at 7 p.m. at the McKinney Theater, featuring The Army Ground Forces Band Brass Brigade.

The event is free to the public; however, a ticket is needed and can be obtained by calling (949) 562-4656.

Following the Jazz Studies’ emphasis on “creativity through improvisation and ensemble performance” the brigade will be exploring many musical landscapes and styles.

The band stands as a unique collection of eleven musicians. This particular ensemble consists of: two trumpet players, two trombone players, two saxophone players, a drummer, a percussionist and a keyboardist.

Unlike many other musical groups organized under the banner of the armed forces, The Brass Brigade performs unconventional pieces of music that usually sit outside formal concert halls. They have been noted for their variety performing funk pieces, dixie interludes, and even touching on rap and soul.

In addition to performing a live concert for the public, The Brass Brigade is contributing to the education of music students here at the college with a full day of music clinics designed for the music department and its students.
