Transfer Day at Saddleback

Saddleback’s most important event Transfer Day will showcase public universities and private schools alike in the Transfer Center Quad September 29 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Colleges nationwide will come to explain in detail what students need to enter their school and what makes their school unique.

Transfer Day is annual and gives students the chance to have a conversation with the universities they are considering transferring to. “Use [that information] as a validation and make sure it’s the same information from [your] counselor,” said Miki Mikolajczak, Transfer Center Coordinator and Counselor.

College Workshop will also be available from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. and another set of workshops available from 2 p.m.-3 p.m. The workshops have been so successful in the past that more were set up and spaced out so students could visit more than one, said Mikolajczak.

One workshop is “So you want to be a Trojan?” where the University of Southern California will take advantage of its annual visit to Saddleback. Saddleback is one of the top feeders to Saddleback, said Mikolajcak, due to our strong academic program and student support services like Transfer Day.

Other workshops include “So you want to be a Bruin?” and how to transfer to universities of California, California state universities, out-of-state colleges, and in-state-private universities.

Schools from out-of-state attending Transfer Day include Columbia University, Arizona State University, Washington State University, and 15 more. A complete list can be found in the Transfer Center or online at www.saddleback.edu/transfer.

“[These colleges] want our students,” said Barbara Benavides, Senior Transfer Center Specialist and Transfer Day college recruiter. “Saddleback has great students.” Saddleback is ranked as one of the best community colleges in California, trailing just behind Orange Coast College.

Transfer Day is only once a year and is the one time when many of these schools will come with college representatives to give information about their college in person, so anyone interested in transferring would not want to miss this event. Details on campus life and major preparation will be given, and the opportunity should be taken.

Brochures and helpful packets on transferring will be distributed by Saddleback and other colleges for students to be able to make sure they aren’t missing any questions.

One final bonus will be 500 cans of free soda pop distributed by Pepsi. So don’t forget to pop by on Transfer Day for college transfer opportunities.
