Southern California ShakeOut 2008

The University of Southern California is hosting its biggest party yet: ShakeOut 2008. On Nov. 13, you’ll be able to catch the students and staff doing the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” at this BYOB event.

Didn’t prepare your disaster supply kits yet? They’ve got you covered. Not only is every guest expected to have food and beverages for a week, they’re going to turn the water from their Olympic-sized pool into drinkable water for anyone who needs a little hydration. That’s right, free drinks for everyone.

ShakeOut 2008 was partially inspired by Hurricane Katrina, a party hosted in New Orleans. However, with the affluence of the students and faculty at USC, ShakeOut 2008 promises to be the “Big One.”

RSVP to ShakeOut.org to receive event notification and network with other Southern California movers and shakers. Discussions will be held about fires, floods, landslides, must-have swag, and how to best utilize BlackBerries and iPhones at the event.

Glow sticks are highly encouraged but not required, as are hard hats. Remember, no candles, lighters, or any sort of firearm in consideration of the natural gases. Unlike Hurricane Katrina, ShakeOut 2008 encourages personal hygiene supplies, medical supplies, and most importantly, cash.

ShakeOut 2008 is sure to be less disastrous than Louisiana’s Hurricane Katrina. Not only has there been more time put into the project, but also more money. The San Andreas Fault is calling southern Californians out to party, so get ready to shake it.
