Preparing to perform Carmina Burana. (Angie L. Pineda)

Students and Saddleback College guests were crowded around the McKinney Theater hoping to have a chance to get inside to listen to the Saddleback Choir and Chorus Oct. 14.

Unfortunately, every single ticket had been sold, the theater reached the population capacity, and the door was secured with the music department staff making sure no one got in.

Carmina Burana is one of the most popularized choral pieces created around the 11TH century to 13TH  and is quite possibly the most recognized works during that time and now.

Carmina Burana was one of Hitler’s favorite musical pieces,” Director of Voice and Chorale Music Scott Fathring says, as he compared something so beautiful to something not-so-beautiful. The auditorium filled with laughter, and then Farthing also the conductor, proceeded to prepare to fill the theater with the “beloved” musical piece.

The listeners were asked to hold applause until the entire work was over, but it was a struggle, as many of the audience were ecstatic with each performance and solos. Some began to clap and immediately stopped when they remembered to wait until further notice.

Although soprano Dr. Robyn Frey-Monell has performed Carmina Burana before, she says that it still took practice and dedication to repeat her solos, “I put in about a month of practice.”

House assistant, Amy Hunter, advises to purchase tickets before concerts and shows.
