School cafeteria gets an upgraded look

Lunch rush

The Saddleback College cafeteria has an established reputation among its customers as a great place for an affordable meal or snack. Known for great selection, enthusiastic staff and a laid-back atmosphere, this campus hot spot has been popular, but not fully used to its full potential.

That is, until the husband and wife management team of Vince Lu and Darlene Nghiem spearheaded a renovation effort on the part of their company, S&B Foods.

Improvements include: new menu selections, new signs, Gevalia coffee, Vienna Beef hot dogs, Tyson chicken products, and freshschetta pizza.

The cafeteria is used as a casual meeting place for clubs. Laptop users can also take advantage of the free wi-fi while enjoying lunch, and students can tuck away and utilize the area as a comfortable study nook.

“I enjoy the cafeteria because the location is very convenient when I need a quick snack between classes,” Kayla Haddad, 20, photography said. “It is also a nice place to hang out if you don’t want to leave campus while waiting for your next class.”

Saddleback’s cafeteria is truly a gem, and this past summer it was polished up for the coming semester’s rush. “We were not upping the price,” Lu said, “but we are giving better quality.”

The main focus of the cafeteria services is the student.

“I like to serve customers,” Nghiem said. “I like the one on one experience. It is enjoyable for me, making sure that people are getting what they want.”

The time and effort the cafeteria team has put in is clearly evident upon entry.

Since the first day of school the cafeteria has been booming with business as students, faculty and staff flow in to satify their thirst and hunger.

With new food and beverages offered, the cafeteria is sure to be packed throughout the year with patrons eager to get their food fix before and after classes.
