Saddleback splits series against Fullerton

Still clinging to playoff hopes, Saddleback’s baseball team ended its season with a home and away series against Fullerton.

On Thursday, the Gauchos were down, 10-9, at Fullerton in the top of the ninth with one out. With two runners on, Gauchos Eric Mura came to the plate.

He came through in the clutch, getting a double while driving in the tying, and eventual, game-winning run.

He was later driven in by Mike Cole to increase the Gauchos lead to 12-10.

That turned out to be the final score, as Rich Kemp shut down Fullerton to earn a win.

The Series shifted to Saddleback College last Friday and déjá vu came to play.

Another back and forth slugfest, the only thing different about the second time around was the outcome.

The Hornets won by a score of 13-11. Infielder Brandon Loftus got hit by a pitch for the 28th time of this season, which led to three stolen bases on the day.

Chad Richardson also hit a two run home run on the day. Mike Cole and Eric Mura also had two-hit days.

The Gauchos fell short of the playoffs this year as well as making a play-in game to make the playoffs.

The team finished 23-21 overall, but struggled in conference play with a 9-12 record, which tied them for fifth place with Riverside College.
