On Friday, Nov. 30 Saddleback College released the mobile version of the student portal MySite. This free download is available for both iOS Apps and in the Google Play Store giving students access on any web-enabled device including iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Android.

MySite includes critical information such as a News Feed with the ability to email or text message information, as well as My Classes that details class information per semester, a To Do List and a Calendar.

A web version of MySite mobile is available at mysite.socccd.edu and can be accessed from any smart phone or tablet.

Since a soft launch in February 2011, the school estimates that the mobile app has been downloaded nearly 11,000 times.  Students say it is easy to use.

“I use it to check my class schedule in the beginning of the semester … I like the part where I can check my newsfeed and the directory is good too,” Chip Bronsky, 20, Geology major said.

Bronsky was familiar with the first launch of the app and mentions he would like to see a Blackboard which is now included in the updated version.

Blackboard is also available through this module giving students access to online courses including all the information required such as a syllabus, course content, assignments and discussions.

There is also a feature to save the organizations belonged to and a favorites section for courses and organizations. With this app, you no longer need Blackboard mobile learn.

“It’s a real nice feature, very practical for students. It’s very fast,” Ken Kaefer, English Professor said.

He also mentioned that through Blackboard he can see the last time students checked their Blackboard and he hopes this new application will help students become more aware of their status in class.

Especially for new students who often find themselves lost on campus, now they can use a GPS-enabled campus map to easily get around. Another feature helpful to orienting oneself to campus is having access to the Saddleback YouTube videos where many of your frequently asked questions are answered.

Click on the Emergency button and you will find phone numbers for campus police or just click through in the case of a real emergency.

Saddleback Mobile gives you a searchable database of contacts making it easy for you to find and contact faculty or staff members.

“Last week my friend needed to call campus security, because he wanted to know if he could leave his car overnight,” Chris Conway, 19, Spanish major said.

He was able to use the application to quickly get campus security’s telephone number. Conway was new to Saddleback campus last year and the application’s GPS feature helped him navigate his way through the campus.  His only complaint would be that the application is not yet compatible with his iPhone5.

Stay updated regarding campus events including the athletics department and the Fine Arts and Theatre events.  It is easy to send email or text notifications to yourself as reminders of events. You can also use the customizable calendar. If you need to access individual departments, just click on the Contact Us button.
