By 11:30 p.m., and 1010 out of 2109 polls reporting, Proposition 8 continues to gain with the 58.2 voting Yes and 41.8 in opposition.

Proposition 8 is summarized as changes in California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California. It provides that only a marriage between a man and a woman is recognized and valid.

It shall have little fiscal impact on state and local governments in the long run. In the next few years it could have potential revenue loss, mainly sales taxes which would total several tens of millions of dollars.

“I worked on the ‘No on 8’ campaign in Laguna Niguel and at the end of the night they published the results for that precinct. I’m very optimistic that California will vote it down.” Chris Johnson campaign worker said

A No vote on this measure means that marriage between individuals of the same sex would continue to be valid in California.

A Yes vote will change the California Constitution and specify that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid.
