Last Thursday and Friday a plant sale was held by Saddleback College’s Horticulture Society.

The plants sold were grown and maintained by horticulture students and greenhouse workers.  All proceeds went to the Horticulture Foundation, which provides scholarships for students, according to Yvonne Alliman, the horticulture lab technician.

By Friday afternoon, most plants had already been sold.

According to Alliman and Robert Farnsworth, the horticulture department chair, the estimated number of people who turned up for the sale was 500, and there was a line of people waiting to get into the plant sale on Thursday morning.

“It’s been going very well, another success for sure,” said Farnsworth.  He mentioned the “outstanding bargains.”

White ginger plants were valued at $7, and a large variety of succulents valued at about $2 each. Compared to most plant nurseries, these are indeed bargain prices, plus many more plant varieties were available than these two.

The Horticulture Society holds plant sales twice a year.  The next sale will take place in April.
