For the second consecutive year, Irvine Valley’s men’s volleyball team finished on top.

The Pacific Coast Conference champion Lasers (18-2)swept their way through both the semifinals and finals of the 2008 California Community College Athletic Association Men’s Volleyball Tournamant to earn the third state title in program history.

State Tournament most valuable player Peter Johnson led his team in the season’s closing matches with 20 and 22 kills.

The two-time PCC player of the year signed a national letter of intent to play next season at University of California, San Diego hours before the Lasers’ 32-24, 30-23, 30-19 sweep of rival Orange Coast College in the finals.

The match marked the Lasers 14th sweep in 18 victories. Only OCC had forced IVC to a five-game match earlier in the season.

Reese Haine and libero Kaleo Baxter were also named to the all-state tournament team.
