Irvine Valley College’s women’s soccer team won its first game of the season with a score of 1-0 over Chaffey Wednesday afternoon at IVC.

With 6 minutes left in the game, sophomore forward Nora Garcia received an assist from freshman forward Eva Khalili.

Garcia dribbled toward goal and fired a low shot, which deflected off Chaffey goalie Samantha Galvin from the top of the box and rolled into the goal.

This shot was IVC’s second of 2, whereas Chaffey shot 8. With 15 minutes to play Chaffey fired a shot from close range, but IVC goalie Lupe Jimenez, sophomore, dove and blocked the shot.

Jimenez had a total of 4 saves in the game.

“This was huge for us,” IVC Coach Simon Davies said.

The Lasers had been forced to drop out of their first 5 games this season due to not enough players.

“I was very pleased with the way the girls kept fighting today,” said Coach Simon Davies.

In last friday’s match up against Miracosta College the Lasers benefited from a forfeit to get their second win of the season.

The 2 teams played in a scrimmage anyway.

The Lasers won the friendly scrimmage by a score of 6-0. The Laser’s record now stands at 2-5-0 on the season. As Orange Empire Conference play gets underway the Lasers will host Fullerton on Tuesday at 3p.m.

On Sept. 23, the Lasers will also host a home game against Golden West Rustlers. That game is also at 3p.m.
