The Lasers’ women’s golf team had been undefeated with a 12-0 record. On Sept. 29 they entered the Orange Empire Conference match at El Prado unbeaten.

The host, Santiago Canyon, beat the Lasers on a tiebreaker, breaking their streak.

Irvine Valley College’s record is currently 15-1.

IVC and Santiago Canyon ended in a tie score of 319, based on the scoring of four players.

It was the score of the fifth player that cost IVC the win.Lasers Coach Ben Burnett had reason to remain proud of his team nonetheless.

“Our four team score of 319 is the best competitive score that I can recall an IVC women’s team posting on a par 72 golf course in the history of our program,” Burnett said.

“What I emphasized to the team was that this is the type of score that they might need to shoot at the Southern California Regional in November to advance to the State Finals.

“When you have posted a score under 320 once, it is easier to do it again.”

Freshman Felicia Titus, whose 3 over par score of 75 made her the medalist of the day, led IVC.

Following right behind, both with scores of 81, were Freshman Sam Roberts and sophomore Courtney Schroeder. Sophomore Alex Calvillo was fourth with his score of 82.

The Lasers fifth scorer was Freshman Bianca Brown with 89.

The Lasers next match will be today at the League Cup Invitational at Riverview at 11 a.m.
