The IVC golf team won another match on their own turf last Monday in an OEC match at Oak Creek. Sam Roberts paced the Lasers to four wins on the day which included a 23-stroke win over rival Santiago Canyon.

The Lasers now extend their record to 23-1 on the season while Santiago Canyon who came in second has their record stand at 18-6.

Felicia Titus ranks No. 1 in conference with an average score of 78.50, Sam Roberts places third in conference for the Lasers with a score of 81.500.

The Lasers next match will be an Orange Empire Conference match held at Arroyo Trabuco against Saddleback College. The match starts at 11:30 a.m. On Monday the Lasers will play at El Prado against Santiago Canyon College at 10 a.m. Last Wednesday the IVC Golf team won the trophy at the inaugural OEC League Cup non-conference tournament at the Riverview Golf Course.

The goal at the tournament was to earn points. The first six holes of the match were teams playing alternate shots.

The next six were teams play-ing their own ball and using the best of their two scores on each hole.

The last six holes were individual one-on-one match play. The Lasers won the cup trophy with 32 points, while Santa Ana followed behind them with 29.

Saddleback came in fourth with 14 points. The match was followed by the Ryder Cup format.

“Most of the ladies had no previous experience in Ryder Cup match style play,” IVC Coach Ben Burnett said. “I was very pleased with the way our team played the last six holes. If scored in medal play terms, Sam Roberts played the last six holes at one under par.”

Burnett said using the same format, Felicia Titus would of had an even par. Val Watts had a score of one over par and sophomore Alex Cavillo at two over par.

“Our top finishing scores were outstanding, it helps prepare the team to be one of two teams that advance to Regionals for the state tile,” Coach Burnett said.
