Hybrid cars…Worth the price?

Most students agree that we are in some serious need of more environmentally friendly technology, but not all of it seems to be as good as it’s cracked up to be.

Hybrids cars are all the rage right now for those who try to be environmentally conscious, but they are way out of the Average Joe’s price range.

Many can be priced higher than $50,000, and for those of us who aren’t able to pull income to satisfy that cost, we are completely out of luck. The cost rises even higher when you add the price of gas, because since they are hybrids, not electrics, they still require gas.

During the summer, gasoline expands, causing us to get less than what we pay for, and during the winter, cars, including hybrids, don’t function at full capacity. This causes users to spend more money for smaller reward than they thought they were getting.

It seems that many of us really became interested in hybrids after we saw celebrities using them. Yes, there are people out there that have always gone greener than others, but for the most part it seems we only jump on the good-cause bandwagon.

Many other sources of power and transportation are out there. Carpooling alone would make a huge impact on the amount of pollution we create and put into the atmosphere. Walking or riding bicycles is another great way to get from point A to point B and it’s a good source of exercise.

Hybrids aren’t going to solve the environmental problems – it will take far more.
