Fashion Show Vendors, students and spectators filled the quad to celebrate Fashion A‘wear’ness Day last Thursday.

The event was put together by Saddleback’s Fashion Department and Fashion Club.

“Today is a day to raise awareness for fashion as well as the industry,” said Aurehzu Rahimian, president of the Saddleback Fashion Club.

Local vendors included RVCA, Element, ETNIES, Groove Footwear and many more.

“My favorite booth was the non profit animal organization because it was the only one not making money off their stand,” said Kendra Karden, 19, speech communications.

Students browsed through the numerous booths while enjoying cookies, lemonade and fresh tacos.

“I don’t have time to go to the mall, so this was a convenient opportunity to shop,” said Annie Tam, 36, accounting.

Raffles and contests were being held to give away purses, jewelry and other items from the vendors.

“It’s cool because I’m really into fashion,” said Curtis Forrest, 19, international business.
The popular vendors were not the only ones selling their merchandise during the celebration. Saddleback fashion students had their designs up for sale as well.

“I enjoyed all the vendors and I like the music being played,” said Niqueo Johnson, 22, fashion.

A stage was set up in the quad alongside a DJ, for the models who would be strutting fashionable pieces down the runway.

Diane McGroarty, special events instructor, elaborated on the production.

“The purpose of the show is to teach students how to put on a fashion event from start tofinish, hands on,” McGroarty said. “My students are broken up into committees, each in charge of promotions, modeling, stage setup and directing.”

The Fashion Department puts on two main events- in the fall, “Fashion A‘wear’ness Day” and in the spring a larger annual fashion show held in McKinney Theatre.
