High school students and their parents poured into the Saddleback College student services building on Tuesday, October 24, to participate in the annual Family Night. Family night is held once a year for high school students who are interested in attending Saddleback College.

The purpose of the event is to inform prospective students and their families of services and programs that Saddleback has to offer. Saddleback President, Tod Burnett, was there and opened up with a short speech welcoming the families and briefing them on what to expect from family night.

“We are your community college,” said Burnett as he proudly explained Saddleback’s transfer and academic programs.

“Hopefully these students make Saddleback College their first choice,” said Burnett whe asked about the high school students at family night.

Administrators also presented a PowerPoint presentation covering Saddleback’s transfer rates, programs, athletic programs, opportunities, financial aid, and extra curricular activities.

The upstairs hallway was packed- wall to wall- with information booths. The booths were set up by various clubs and had members from each club answering questions. Some of the booths include- fashion, tutoring information, transfer programs, and more.

The event had a buffet set up on the patio outside the cafeteria, with salad, chicken, sandwiches, snacks and refreshments.

“We’re really happy we came,” said Katy Brown, a senior at Capistrano Valley High School. “It was very helpful, and I definitely have a better understanding about the school.”
