College fair assists transfer candidates

STOP, LOOK, LISTEN

Deciding where to transfer after completing classes at Saddleback can be a difficult decision to make. By attending college fairs, the choice could easily be narrowed down.

Saddleback held its first college fair of the semester Sept. 9 in the SSC quad. Representatives from local four-year universities were present to provide assistance to future transfer students. Cal State Fullerton was one that joined in to recruit new students. According to representatives Grecia Pardave and Michelle Lucio, between 45,000 and 49,000 students apply each year. The main concentrations and majors for Fullerton graduates are business, nursing, and communications according to the reps.

As part of the Cal State transfer pattern, Fullerton requires all applicants to complete a minimum 60 transferable semester units, a GPA of 2.0 or higher, and good academic standing.

For the busier student, Vanguard University may be a more suitable choice. With older adults returning to school, it may be hard to find time for classes with an already hectic schedule. Vanguard is structured to help meet the needs of the overloaded student.

Vanguard students are offered a variety of classes and programs. Students with children are able to take 5-8 week classes during the evening, and those who choose these classes are able to complete up to 35 units a year.

“Our 5-8 week classes are more fast pace,” Jim Kadlac, Vanguard representative said. “We offer more traditional adult classes at night. All classes are structured and organized.”

Some of the new evening classes include business, psychology, religion, and nursing courses.

For anyone who wants to work in the art field, the Art Institute of California could be a valid choice.
