Irvine Valley College, nearly 30 years old, will be celebrating its newest addition, the Performing Arts Center.

“There are three venues inside the building,” said Senior Labatory Technician Mark Petersen. “There is a main stage that can fit around 400 people; there is a music hall that functions as a big lecture hall during the day and a place for recitals in the evening; lastly, there is a malleable black box studio theater.”

The Performing Arts Center has been under production for quite some time.

“Well, the design committee completed its work in the fall of 1990,” said Stephen Rochford. “The then Board of Trustees approved the building in January of 1991. We were supposed to have the building ten years ago. We were told 1996-1997 year.”In celebration of this unveiling, there will be a Gala on Oct. 30.

“There will be guest speakers, short speeches and performances from Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and Choir,” said Concert Coordinator Official Carla Reisch. “This event is not open to the public; only V.I.Ps, faculty, and staff are invited.”
