BREAKING NEWS: Irvine PD searching for double-murder suspect

UPDATE (3:50 p.m.): According to the Long Beach Press-Telegram, law enforcement authorities located a burning truck near Big Bear Lake that matches the description of the vehicle driven by murder suspect Christopher Dorner. The Press-Telegram says that authorities believe Dorner is in the area, and law enforcement units are staging their search out of Big Bear Lake, Running Springs, Arrowbear, and Twin Peaks, in the San Bernadino Mountains. UPDATE (11:59 a.m.): In a press conference, Corona Police confirmed that Dorner shot at officers roughly 20 minutes before Thursday morning’s fatal shooting. One officer received a “graze wound” to the forehead, the other officer was unharmed. The officer wounded in the shooting early Thursday morning that left another officer dead underwent surgery and is now in intensive care. Police are updating the description of the vehicle he is believed to be in, saying it is a dark blue or dark gray 2005 Nissan Titan crew cab pickup truck with California plates, reading either 8D83987 OR 7X09131.

UPDATE: From KFI News Text Alerts, Christopher Dorner is now a suspect in the shootings of two officers in Riverside at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning. One of the officers shot in Riverside has succumbed to his wounds.

The Irvine Police Department has identified a suspect in the double murder of a college basketball coach and her fiancee.

In a press release, Irvine PD announced Wednesday night that they are searching for Christopher Jordan Dorner. His last known address was in La Palma. He is described as black, 6’0″, 270 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He is believed to be driving a blue 2005 Nissan Titan pickup truck with California plates reading 7X03191. According to Irvine PD, he is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Dorner is sought in connection with the murders of 28-year -old Monica Quan and 27 year old Keith Lawrence on Sunday, Feb. 3. According to KFI News, police responded to a call at just after 9 p.m. Sunday night about a person slumped over inside of a parked car in the 2100 block of Scholarship in Irvine. Lawrence was a public safety officer at University of Southern California. Quan was an assistant basketball coach for the women’s basketball team at California State University, Fullerton.

KFI News reported that Dorner was fired from the Los Angeles Police Department in 2009, after being investigated for making false statements regarding a training officer. Several days ago, Dorner published a manifesto making threats against the families of the members of the review board that fired him. Dorner wrote that he, “… never had the opportunity to have a family of my own, I’m terminating yours.” Dorner continues his threats later on in his manifesto, saying, “This is my last resort. The LAPD has suppressed the truth and it has now lead to deadly consequences. Your day has come.”
