Book Loan Program to continue this semester
The Saddleback College Associated Student Government is continuing its Book Loan Program for the spring semester.
The program, enacted in the fall of 2008, was created to combat the effects of the financial crisis that left many students unable to afford textbooks and were ineligible for support under the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) requirements.
The program began with ASG giving $5,000 to the college library to purchase books to loan to students with the Saddleback College Foundation matching the amount. Because there were not enough funds to’ cover all the class textbooks’ only the most popular courses are currently being covered.
‘Books were ordered for the highest enrolled classes’ with the most expensive books’ in the hopes that the students in need would be’ covered,’ said Audra DiPadova, Director of Student Development.
Originally, the checkout time was allotted for two days, but as a result of student demand the time has been reduced to two hours to help keep the textbooks within a students reach at all times.
‘If it’s not available at the point you need it, it will be available soon thereafter,’ DiPadova said. ‘Like, within the hour.’
