Elections for Saddleback College’s Associated Student Government will begin Friday, April 10, with results posted Thursday, April 23.

Applications for those interested in becoming part of the ASG are now available in Student Services Center, Rooms 210 or 207. The application deadline is Thursday, April 9 by 5 p.m.

Before campaigning begins on Friday, April 10 there will be a mandatory meeting at 1 p.m. in SSC 208. All deadlines are printed on the back of the Election Information packet and application.

The voting starts on April 21 at 9 a.m. and ends the following day at 10p.m. For those interested in the positions of ASG president, vice president, Inter Club Council (ICC) director or one of the specific ASG Senate positions, make sure to check out the candidate eligibility criteria before Thursday, April 9.

Getting students to vote takes a lot of creativity. In previous years, candidates set up a booth with laptops where students are asked to log into their MySite on location to cast their vote. Campaigning is crucial in these elections.

According to Delainey Taylor, 18, liberal studies, who is campaigning for ASG president, previous applicants have used My Space, Facebook, and other social networks to help them get votes from friends and fellow students.

A good way to find out more about ASG is to visit their Web site, which describes the organization. “The Associated Student Government (ASG) plans, organizes, promotes, sponsors and finances a comprehensive program of activities and services for all Saddleback College students,” as stated on http://www.saddleback.edu/asg/.
